Ko Wairarapa

This term, in September  now November 2nd, our school will be taking part in the Wairarapa-wide attempt to smash the world record (held by France - ahem!!) for the most amount of people doing the haka at the same time.

Our own Ko Wairarapa haka has been chosen for this. We'd love for all families to be involved too, so here's a helpful video that will assist you all in learning this awesome haka for an awesome world record attempt!

Storyteller Programme

Are you aged between 7 & 14 years old?

Children will complete a free ten week programme introducing them to the art of storytelling. Storytelling is a performance based art in which students select a story, and through writing and movement activities, learn how to bring it to life and bring it from the page to the stage. They will receive a folder to keep their work safe and will learn among other things, visualization techniques, gestures, intonation, body language and seizing the stage with style.

This programme increases self-esteem, confidence and promotes reading for fun. After students have completed the programme, they will share their stories with family and friends in a special Storytelling Festival Performance in the Events Centre.

Parents and caregivers will be kept informed of the students’ progress over the course of the ten weeks.

Beginning Saturday 30th July for 10 weeks, 2pm-4pm

Please contact Carterton Library for more information.

Wear a Wig Day

Better late than never in posting photos of everyone wearing wigs! It was a fun day and got us thinking about other people who are going through cancer treatment.

Taonga Takaro Kaitahi

At the end of Term 2 we held a Kaitahi (a feast) where each student had to think of a way to change one meal they liked into an even healthier version. There were some fantastic examples of thinking about seasonal eating, the vitamins and minerals we might need at this time of year and changing things up to add more fresh foods into recipes.
